Hamilton, April 28th, 2017: In response to Budget 2017, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) and the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce today expressed concern that there is no clear path for long-term fiscal prudence, while commending the government for Ontario’s first balanced budget since the global recession. While there is no deficit over the planning period, there is also no plan for surplus.

Today, the Ontario government released a set of 16 comprehensive measures aimed at helping Ontarians find affordable homes and bring stability to the real estate market. The OCC applauds the government for taking action to ensure affordability, however, they believe that measures should target increasing supply and protecting landlords while encouraging new opportunities for growth.

As you know, The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce continues to play a leadership role on several fronts important to our membership and the wider community. One significant ongoing priority is modern transportation infrastructure necessary for the movement of people and goods, locally and beyond. A major component of this infrastructure is Hamilton’s LRT system now in development.

Hamilton, Ont., April, 5th, 2017: Today the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) with the support of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, sent an open letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne calling on the government take action through Budget 2017 to contain the costs of the cap and trade system to better support Ontario’s business community.

Yesterday, the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce joined leaders of nine other pillar institutions in the City to sign a joint letter urging City Council to continue implementing the city’s rapid transit plan, starting with the B-Line light rail transit (LRT) line and A-Line bus rapid transit (BRT) line.

Hamilton, ON, March 20th, 2017: On March 21, 2017 (3:30-5:00 pm) the Hamilton, Sault Ste. Marie and the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce will provide testimony at the House of Common’s Standing Committee on International Trade on its study concerning the Canadian Steel Industry’s Ability to Compete Internationally.
The invitation from the federal government is an outcome of efforts over the last few months to elevate the challenges facing the steel industry across Canada, and especially within these three communities.
