Hamilton, ON, October 20th, 2015: The Canadian Chamber of Commerce recently had it’s annual general meeting on October 17-19th. At the GA over 47 resolutions submitted from Chambers of Commerce across the country were formally debated and adopted by the membership. Hamilton Chamber of Commerce is pleased to report back that our’s titled: “Developing a National Urban Policy for Canadian Cities” was overwhelmingly approved by the delegation and is now an official advocacy priority of the Chambers.

Hamilton Chamber and Ontario Chamber Network leads employer coalition expressing outstanding concerns with proposed pension plan

The Government of Ontario is moving quickly to finalize the design of its Ontario Retirement Pension Plan, which is due to take effect on Jan. 1, 2017.

Today, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and a coalition of over 150 employers released a letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne outlining five outstanding concerns regarding the proposed pension plan.

Hamilton ON, September 17th, 2015 – The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) has called on the province to avoid proposals that would substantially affect Ontario’s competitiveness, jobs, and the economy.

Timed to coincide with the final consultations of the Ontario government’s Changing Workplaces Review, the OCC, the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, and over 30 chambers of commerce and boards of trade from across the province have publicly released their submission today, which expresses concern over previous deputations under consideration by the Review.

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is changing the way employer premiums are determined. While in some respects the Proposed Preliminary Rate Framework marks a positive change from the existing rate setting process, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) is concerned that the new rate framework could increase the premium rates paid by employers and, subsequently, the cost of doing business in the province.
