Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, as the voice of ethical enterprise, is committed to making the City of Hamilton and all of its communities a great place to live, work, play, visit and invest; by promoting private sector jobs and prosperity growth of individuals, organizations and businesses.

As a sought-out organization that is strong, influential, and self-sustaining, we champion the interests of ethical, free enterprise by effectively engaging business, community, and government leaders in the promotion of the long-term economic prosperity of our region.

Functions of a Chamber of Commerce:
1. Strengthen business in our community
- Business to business opportunities between members (through website; through events; Chamber advertising vehicles, by connecting with members)
- Coordinate and host seminars and workshops to build capacity for businesses
- Provide timely and topical business information to members
- Collaborate with Economic Development to attract and retain business
- Celebrate business accomplishments (e.x. through Outstanding Business Achievement Awards)
- Provide affinity programs for members to reduce costs for members and provide benefits
2. Represent business interests with government
- Develop Policy to address specific issues or problems - work can begin at the “grassroots” level – by members, through Divisions and Committees or from the Board
- Link with Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Canadian Chamber of Commerce – policy resolutions are debated at annual meetings; approved resolutions are communicated with provincial and federal governments
- Facilitate discussion between member(s) and government when there are specific issues to be addressed
3. Take political action
- Select policy priorities annually with input from members, Divisions, Committees, and Board
- Appear before City Council on specific issues
- Meet with local city councilors, MPs and MPPs
4. Promote the community
- Through telling Hamilton’s business story (e.x. Hamilton Economic Summit)
- Through communication vehicles (website, publications, social media)
- Host the provincial or national chamber conference or AGM (ex. Hosting the 2012 CCC AGM)
- Collaborating with Tourism Hamilton and Economic Development for both tourism and business development
5. Provide opportunities to build business’ network
- Through attending events – ex. Business after Business
- Through Connections
- Participating on a Division or Committee or Task Force
