Federal & Provincial Investment Confirm Hamilton is LRT Ready

· by c.dambrosio@hamiltonchamber.ca

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce congratulates the federal and provincial governments for working together to fund an unprecedented investment in transit across our region, including the Hamilton City Council-approved B-Line LRT project that will run from McMaster University to Centennial Parkway.

This announcement comes after a decade of collective community advocacy from the Chamber and countless Hamilton organizations and citizens who believe in the transformative economic and social benefits this once-in-a-lifetime infrastructure investment will generate for our entire city.

After spending over 10 years and almost $200 million to study and plan, this project is shovel ready. We have already seen impressive investment along the B-line since the province first committed to funding LRT, having experienced a 500% increase in new residential units across the lower city.

Today’s announcement ensures that Hamilton’s post-pandemic recovery can be fully realized with the creation of thousands of jobs, enhanced transit options, economic uplift, modern underground infrastructure, opportunities for intensification, increased affordable housing and lower carbon emissions.

We urge the quick approval of this agreement by Hamilton City Council and look forward to ongoing collaboration between all levels of government to ensure that project impacts are mitigated and the community benefits are optimized.
